Vulkollan®

Vulkollan® impresses with outstanding mechanical and dynamic properties. As a licensed partner of Covestro, P+S manufactures high-quality wheels, rollers, spring elements, and fittings that offer maximum wear resistance and load capacity.

The impressive mechanical and dynamic material properties are unique features of this classic in the field of compact polyurethane elastomers—and have been the epitome of top performance and outstanding quality for decades. The high-quality base components, a polyester polyol and an equally high-quality diisocyanate, combined with special chain extenders, make it possible to precisely adjust the desired material properties—with a consistently high, reproducible standard of quality.

As a licensed partner of COVESTRO DEUTSCHLAND AG, P+S is authorized to use the trademark “Vulkollan®” to process Vulkollan and to sell components under the “Vulkollan” name.

A variety of molded parts, high-quality wheels, and rollers, as well as semi-finished products for mechanical processing, are used wherever maximum wear resistance and mechanical and physical strength are required. Vulkollan® is manufactured in accordance with the high standards of the LFGB, and we have the technical expertise to provide it with special hydrolysis resistance upon request to ensure exceptional durability even under extreme humidity.

FAQs

Find answers to our most frequently asked questions here:

Which components is Vulkollan® particularly suitable for?

Vulkollan® is the first choice for components subject to high and dynamic loads – such as heavy-duty and guide wheels, rollers, spring elements, coupling elements, and heavily loaded scrapers in mechanical engineering. Wherever large forces must be transmitted reliably with minimal permanent deformation, the material plays to its strengths. Thanks to low abrasion, the material is suited to long-life applications. The exact suitability depends on load, speed, geometry, and operating conditions.

What does Vulkollan®'s low compression set mean in practice?

A low compression set (CS) means that Vulkollan® returns almost completely to its original shape after prolonged or repeated compressive loading. Components maintain their spring and force-transmission properties consistently over many load cycles – a decisive advantage for wheels, rollers, and couplings under continuous dynamic stress. Combined with its high dynamic load capacity, this results in a very long service life.

In which hardness and temperature ranges is Vulkollan® available?

Vulkollan® is available as standard in 80–95 Shore A and covers an operating range of -30 °C to +80 °C; with special formulations, Shore hardnesses of up to 97 Shore A (60 Shore D) and temperatures of -60 °C or +120 °C can be achieved. The material remains flexible even at lower temperatures and does not become brittle. Hydrolysis-resistant variants are available for humid environments.

Is Vulkollan® an alternative to Elastopal EN® or Vulkosoft®?

Vulkollan® is regarded as a classic among compact, cast high-performance polyurethane elastomers; comparable materials are offered under names such as Elastopal EN® or Vulkosoft®, although Vulkollan® is itself the benchmark in many applications. The standard hardness is 80 to 95 Shore A, and in special formulations up to 97 Shore A or 60 Shore D; the operating range extends from -30 °C to +80 °C, and from -60 °C to +120 °C in special formulations. Its key advantage is the very low compression set combined with high dynamic load capacity. Classic components are heavy-duty and guide wheels, rollers, and spring and coupling elements. Suitability is determined by load, speed, geometry, and operating conditions.
